East Avenue

Reported via mobile in the Pothole category anonymously at 21:23, Sunday 8 June 2025

Sent to Cheshire East Council less than a minute later. Council ref: 7679326.

East Avenue has deteriorated to a critical condition due to extensive damage across the full width and length of the carriageway. The road now presents a significant risk to the safety of all road users and requires urgent, permanent intervention. The current state of the road is a direct result of prolonged neglect and insufficient maintenance.

Key Issues Identified 1. Multiple Deep Potholes Large and numerous potholes are now present along the entire stretch of East Avenue. These vary in depth and diameter, with many reaching a size and depth capable of causing serious mechanical damage to vehicles. They are particularly dangerous to cyclists and motorcyclists, who are at risk of serious injury from loss of control. 2. Extensive Surface Cracking Longitudinal and transverse cracks are visible throughout the road, including along wheel tracks, kerbs, and near junctions. These cracks are spreading and deepening, indicating a breakdown of the underlying substructure and base layers. 3. Safety Hazards The condition of the road increases the likelihood of traffic incidents due to sudden braking, swerving to avoid potholes, and reduced traction in wet weather. Pedestrian safety is also compromised, particularly where potholes collect standing water and obscure the true depth of the damage. 4. Damage to Private Vehicles There have been repeated instances of vehicle damage attributed to the road’s condition, including tyre blowouts, damaged suspension, and misalignment. Local residents and regular users of the road are incurring unnecessary and avoidable costs. 5. Inadequate Previous Repairs Previous repair efforts have consisted of temporary surface patching, which has consistently failed. These patches break up quickly, often within weeks, leaving the road in worse condition than before. A long-term solution is now imperative.
