Blocked pavement gullies in Crewe
Reported via desktop in the Gully/Drainage category anonymously at 15:23, Tuesday 21 May 2024
Sent to Cheshire East Council less than a minute later. Council ref: 6002446.
FH Properties Ltd is the owner and landlord of 230, 230A, 232 & 232A Natwich Road. In May and June 2023 I contacted Cheshire East Council about the state of the gullies on the public pavement between the Aldi Store and Bedford Street. I was advised that Cheshire East do not have any schedule for maintenance of these gullies. The gullies remained blocked. In the heavy rain last week the water from the roofs of our two properties was prevented from exiting along the Cheshire East pavement gullies due to them being blocked. The water backed up our downspout until it found an exit point which it then sprayed out of under the extreme pressure that had built up. As it was spraying over the public pavement it was creating a hazard to pedestrians as well as to our tenants and their customers. Due to the response received from Cheshire East in 2023 we requested that our agents resolve the issue in order to protect the public safety. They have cleaned out one meter from the downspout and removed two bags of silt in the process. We have been charged £162.00 including VAT for their work in protecting the safety of pedestrians on the public pavement. Can you please confirm that Cheshire East will now create a schedule of regular inspections, and associated remedial work, of all pavement gullies in Crewe on an ongoing basis in order to protect public safety.
