137-135 Middlewich Road, opposite Park Lane

Reported via mobile in the Pothole category by Matthias Bunte at 10:52, Sunday 18 February 2024

Sent to Cheshire East Council 10 minutes later. Council ref: 5593105.

I’m reporting a series of potholes between Park Lane and Platt Avenue. There are long strips where utility repairs were completed some years ago and potholes keep developing on the edges of these strip. The stretch is around 1m from the kerb which is the line cyclists would choose. However, due to the large number of potholes cyclists struggle to position themselves on the road safely. I counted 11 potholes deeper than the ‘investigtory level’ of 40 mm which equates to the tower of 4 Lego bricks as on my pictures. Where the tower is floating in the puddle the pothole is deeper than 40 mm. Furthermore even potholes below that depth are dangerous to cyclists, especially those of an oblong shape where the front wheel can get stuck, unseating the cyclist. Close to one person per week has been killed or seriously injured while cycling due to potholes and road defects (“Britain’s pothole crisis costs lives” says Cycling UK | Cycling UK) . I suggest resurfacing the whole stretch of road between Park Lane and Plant Avenue due to the many irregularities on the carriageway here.
