Footpath on eastern end of Pool Lane
Reported via mobile in the Footway category anonymously at 18:39, Sunday 4 June 2023
Sent to Cheshire East Council less than a minute later. Council ref: 4630334.
The footpath is too narrow for safe use because 30cm of earth and turf cover parts of the tarmac, leaving only about 60cm width clear. This has been the case for the past eight years. Nettles, hawthorne and brambles grow in the hedge which also narrows the available space. The limited width means that people cannot pass others, or sometimes even walk single file on the pavement, and are forced onto the road not far from a junction where cars turn off Hassall Road at speed. Unfortunately, not all drivers keep to the 30mph limit. Regular pedestrian users of Pool Lane include an elderly lady being pushed in a wheelchair, families with a child in a buggy, pensioners out for a walk and the school children making their way from Sandy Lane to the bus stop on Crewe Road each morning. Clearing away sections of turf shows clearly that the original pavement was about 1 metre wide all along its 150m length from the field entrance to the grit-bin but it has narrowed over time, and is now dangerous.
