Welland Road- Footpath needs closing!

Reported via mobile in the Hedge/Tree Maintenance category anonymously at 22:22, Saturday 3 June 2023

Sent to Cheshire East Council less than a minute later. Council ref: 4628210.

Thank you for recently updating my report regarding this leaning tree. However, I am making another report as I am very concerned to why the public footpath has not been closed off on this side of the road. As you can see from the pictures, this tree is clearly unsafe and you can also see in one of them that the tree directly next to this one (the same type and was located in the same area of the river bank) fell during broad daylight a few years ago. I raised my suspicion on the danger of these trees previously before the other one fell and nothing was done, they were just left to fall. One also fell into the river in this location too just a week after the other one fell and the environment agency had to remove it. Surely this demonstrates that these trees are dangerous and not secure! Two have fallen in the past three years! This tree should have been removed as soon as the other ones fell but yet we are here three years later with a safety issue. I request that you close the public footpath on this side of the road and urge pedestrians to walk on the opposite side of the road to keep them away from the main branch of the tree whilst the tree is undergoing testing to determine it’s safety. I understand that removing a tree like this would be very difficult if you conclude it is unsafe but for the time being the safety of road users needs to be priority so please close the footpath off as soon as possible as I don’t believe people should have access to walk under this tree. Thank you.
