From the outside of 42 High Street, all along the left hand side of the street up the hill

Reported via desktop in the Carriageway category anonymously at 10:59, Sat 19 November 2022

Sent to Cheshire East Council less than a minute later. Council ref: 3976623.

I have water coming into my house in the corner of my living room. This isn't damp, it's actually a pool of water that occurs in heavy rain. Have had some internal exploratory work done to investigate possible issues and have found no problems with the walls of the house. On further investigation the pointing of the cobbles on the side of the road appears to have failed. I put some dye down a hole between the cobbles and sure enough it appeared in the hole that had been excavated in my living room. On inspection the pointing under all the cobbles has failed and needs replacing. There is water penetrating the cobbles on the highway and running underneath the pavement. I'm further concerned that it is carving out channels under the footpath and finding its way into my house, causing damage that we can't see. I also have some concerns about the footpath outside the house, in connection with this issue, that I would like to discuss with someone in person as it is difficult to explain without seeing it. It is a substantial amount of water and needs addressing as soon as possible, particularly with the oncoming winter.

Updates

  • Thank you for contacting Cheshire East Highways. We have logged your enquiry and passed it to a member of our team.

Our teams are working hard to manage and respond to reports from members of the public.

We are currently experiencing an increase in demand of reported issues along with a temporary reduction in available staff due to Covid-related sickness and self-isolation.

During this time and until the situation improves, we will be prioritising those issues that present most risk to the travelling public. While we normally aim to provide you with a response within 20 working days, response times for all other reported issues may take longer than usual.

    Thank you for your patience.
