Recommendation for 1 way road on Coare Street
Reported via mobile in the Parking category by Peter Cook at 13:27, Sun 24 July 2022
Sent to Cheshire East Council less than a minute later. Council ref: 3702043.
Currently the Coare street is an access only road, however this is often ignored by drivers and many use the road as a cut-through (often speeding). This increases the level of pollution on the street and for residents, as well as making the road a fairly dangerous place to walk alongside.
After witnessing a similar projects take place in Brighton & Southampton, I believe that the road could be converted to a one-way street (with direction of travelling going from Beech lane to Westminster road) with possible bicycle contraflow. This would remove half the traffic that use the road, and the turning is less often used going in this direction, and in turn reducing pollution for residents.
Traffic calming measures can also be put in place (since one-way streets can see speed increases), with alternating-side permit parking (at each turn off) - the start & end of which could have a planter or small tree placed (to improve the tree equity of the area).
A supporting argument for this project, would factor in the new residential estate just off Westminster road and also the new retirement flats which are currently being built. This increase in population will see increased traffic flows, and supports the need for an increased level of safety.

Thank you for contacting Cheshire East Highways. We have logged your enquiry and passed it to a member of our team.
Our teams are working hard to manage and respond to reports from members of the public.
We are currently experiencing an increase in demand of reported issues along with a temporary reduction in available staff due to Covid-related sickness and self-isolation.During this time and until the situation improves, we will be prioritising those issues that present most risk to the travelling public. While we normally aim to provide you with a response within 20 working days, response times for all other reported issues may take longer than usual.
Thank you for your patience.
