The junction of Middlewich Road and Byley Lane

Reported via desktop in the Conditions of Signs category anonymously at 17:07, Tuesday 31 May 2022

Sent to Cheshire East Council less than a minute later. Council ref: 3564734.

Dear Traffic Safety Team We wrote to you in February of this year, requesting improvements to the signage and priority of this junction, to improve its safety. I have copied the letter below. Since this letter, there has been a further accident resulting in injury to the driver. This is an urgent problem.

Letter Content: Cranage Parish Council expresses deep concerns about the safety of Leese Crossroad, which is situated at the junction of Byley Lane and Middlewich Road in the parish of Cranage.

Further to two accidents in the second half of last year, signage has been re-instated and the white lining at the junction refreshed, both of which have been welcomed by us. Sadly, this is insufficient. In the last month one councillor followed a car that drove straight through the give way signs without slowing. Luck prevailed in this instance but that cannot be the basis for future traffic safety.

As a result, the parish council truly believe that it is only a matter of time before there is a very serious accident at this junction. We implore you to investigate and implement further changes and improvements to this junction, to make the right of way clear to all users of the road, as it continues to be widely mis-used by many motorists.

We look forward to hearing from you soon.

  • Thank you for contacting Cheshire East Highways. We have logged your enquiry and passed it to a member of our team.

Our teams are working hard to manage and respond to reports from members of the public.

We are currently experiencing an increase in demand of reported issues along with a temporary reduction in available staff due to Covid-related sickness and self-isolation.

During this time and until the situation improves, we will be prioritising those issues that present most risk to the travelling public. While we normally aim to provide you with a response within 20 working days, response times for all other reported issues may take longer than usual.

    Thank you for your patience.
