Inspection cover about 30m past the 50mph limit sign on the approach to Holmes Chapel
Reported via desktop in the Carriageway category anonymously at 13:07, Saturday 7 May 2022
Sent to Cheshire East Council less than a minute later. Council ref: 3508250.
For a couple of years, this inspection cover (and the one further down the hill) has leaked liquid regardless of whether it has been raining or not. Over the last couple of months or so whatever is leaking must contain a solvent which has seriously damaged the road surface. The top surface has gone and there now appears to be lose hardcore which will prove hazardous to two-wheeled traffic.
Thank you for contacting Cheshire East Highways. We have logged your enquiry and passed it to a member of our team.
Our teams are working hard to manage and respond to reports from members of the public.
We are currently experiencing an increase in demand of reported issues along with a temporary reduction in available staff due to Covid-related sickness and self-isolation.
During this time and until the situation improves, we will be prioritising those issues that present most risk to the travelling public. While we normally aim to provide you with a response within 20 working days, response times for all other reported issues may take longer than usual.
Thank you for your patience.

We have assessed the issue and added it to our improvement programme for repair over the longer term. This means we are unlikely to do any improvement work here during the current financial year. Our programmes sometimes change if more funding becomes available. You should check our website for any updates. You can find details of the work planned for this location and where it currently sits on the programme through our website: https://www.cheshireeast.gov.uk/ highways_and_roads/ road-maintenance/ road-repair-and-improvement-programme-2021-2022/ road-repair-and-improvement-programme-2021-2022.aspx
