Handforth Road and Dean Road- Dim Street Lights and Speeding Problem

Reported via mobile in the Light Out category anonymously at 12:31, Thu 28 April 2022

Sent to Cheshire East Council less than a minute later. Council ref: 3489011.

I have expressed my concern about the safety of this road (especially at night) for a number of years now and nothing has been done. There was another serious collision here last night and something now needs to change before anymore lives are put in danger. The street lighting as you come down Dean Road from Handforth is horrendous. It is darker than street lights used on little residential roads in the surrounding area such as Hallwood Road. It doesn’t make any sense. It’s hard to see clearly without full beam headlights. That just goes to show that they aren’t operating correctly for a main road. They use a different LED lantern (columns 3-17 Dean Road) than further up towards the Wilmslow Academy School. I have attached an image of the model currently being used in this location which I believe needs changing. Only one tiny patch of light in the middle of the fitting on each column is on at night. They aren’t lighting up the road clearly and as a pedestrian you cannot see a thing walking down that hill at night. I have expressed my concerns about this issue before and nothing has been done. I’m requesting you change the LED’s on columns 3-17 and use the same model on lighting as Handforth Road such as outside the little entrance for the Wilmslow Academy school and Oakland’s Close which is much brighter and allows you to spot hazards much better.

Furthermore, the roundabout by Welland Road is also poorly lit, with only one street light directly on the roundabout which is now starting to be submerged by trees as the leaves come back. This also needs looking into as this is another dark junction with poor lighting where several collisions have taken place in the past.

The other main issue in this same area is speeding. The lack of traffic calming measures is putting road users at risk. People are not slowing down for the roundabout at all and many aren’t sticking to 30mph speed limit. Please could these issues be assessed & appropriate action taken. Thanks.
