On the inside edge of the bend
Reported via desktop in the Carriageway category anonymously at 16:40, Saturday 26 March 2022
Sent to Cheshire East Council less than a minute later. Council ref: 3417949.
This is a follow on to the previously reported issue at this location (Reference 3402177) and is in a very similar vein to the issues highlighted in Council Ref 3292845, 3306730 & 3347773. The status of this problem was changed to "In Progress" on 21st March 2022. A subsection of the affected area has now been delineated with paint for repair. Would someone please advise precisely what is intended. As can be seen from the attached photographs, a significant section of the carriageway outside of the delineated area is cracked. Further inspection of the photographs shows a recent attempted repair on part of the problem and indeed another attempt that was made quite some time ago. All of these attempts have failed. So if these intended repair is to simply do the same again (i.e. patch a subset of the affected area) then it too will fail, just as previous attempts at repair have - which it clearly a waste of your time, my time and CEC money. As you will no doubt be aware, Swanley Lane has been removed from CEC's gritting routes. Whether the increase in ice formation during frosty weather has accelerated the degradation of the road surface is difficult to prove - however it is a reasonable hypothesis to consider.
I note too that an adjacent section of the carriageway (approximately 5m north) on the same dangerous bend is also falling apart but appears to not to have been marked for repair. Does every single hole need to be reported before they are addressed or can we trust CEC and its subcontractors to take sensible, cost effective decisions while the equipment, materials and personnel are in the area?
Ultimately the outcome of what appears to be proposed is highly likely to lead to the same outcome as has been reported via Council Ref 3347773.
Thank you for contacting Cheshire East Highways. We have logged your enquiry and passed it to a member of our team.
Our teams are working hard to manage and respond to reports from members of the public.
We are currently experiencing an increase in demand of reported issues along with a temporary reduction in available staff due to Covid-related sickness and self-isolation.
During this time and until the situation improves, we will be prioritising those issues that present most risk to the travelling public. While we normally aim to provide you with a response within 20 working days, response times for all other reported issues may take longer than usual.
Thank you for your patience.
