Sent to Cheshire East Council less than a minute later. Council ref: 3136891.
This stretch of road has now become “unfit for purpose”. The surface has degraded to such an extent that it creates a serious safety hazard to vehicle and pedestrian users on a daily basis. Years of filling in potholes and the road being exposed to “A” road levels of traffic have left a situation which the council can no longer ignore. The surface is more akin to an unmade track, peppered with undulations, ruts, holes and crumbling shoulders. Regular flooding as drainage is not fit for purpose has accelerated the surface degradation during freezing temperatures. I have experienced traffic violently swerving to avoid vehicle damage, cyclists having to dismount. Organisers of the local triathlon regularly spray paint warnings on the road surface for competitors to see…..and this is a national cycle route! There is no or little pedestrian provision making walking the road an even more dangerous pastime……pedestrians are not uncommon with Reaseheath College/student activities between Old Hall Farm and the college main grounds. The road was also accepted by the planning department as a pedestrian route to the town from New Start Park travelers site. This is not an average “B” road, traffic levels are far in excess of that with particularly heavy agricultural vehicles using it daily. It is also an alternative route to Winsford, currently acting as a diversion for the closed A51 and offers major access to one of the country’s most prestigious agricultural colleges. As such it deserves the appropriate maintenance from Cheshire East Highways.
