Spen Moss

Reported via desktop in the Pothole category by Jeff Cuttell at 19:30, Sat 2 October 2021

Sent to Cheshire East Council less than a minute later. Council ref: 3038201.

My original report is not showing up - so I am submitting again. Unfortunately the second picture of a water fountain rising 3 ins above the road surface has since been deleted - but I saved the original text. Hope you get it this time - TEXT FOLLOWS: “ I have been reporting this subterranean drainage issue for several years now. Occasionally a patch has been applied. At other times the damage has simply been allocated to "planned works". I have been warning that the process has been in danger of creating a cavitation/sinkhole. This is evidence that process is underway yet again now that the seasonal rains have begun. The second picture was from 29/9/21 (yesterday). It shows the return of an underground spring, a fountain of water jets about three inches above the road surface through a hole in the previous patchwork of useless repairs and sediment & weeds that have backfilled the hole. The first picture is from today 30/9/21. As I drove onto my drive I FELT THE ROAD SURFACE COLLAPSE BENEATH THE CAR WHEEL. We have had repeated wheel damage and expensive suspension issues with both of our cars - it's nice to now have some evidence of where this is coming from and who could be sued seeing as my warnings have been ignored! As I have said in earlier reports I have made - there is probably a collapsed drain here (the water is not foul water, nor is it chlorinated as testing has proved). This is actually causing multiple problems for about 50 yards all the way down the road gully. This is the start point. Similar damage is continuous from outside Corner Cottage down to the driveway of Willow Brook Cottage.” TEXT ENDS, Thank you.

  • So the road is now marked up for work, but NOT INCLUDING the massive deterioration in this section! I have been reporting and re-reporting this for SEVERAL YEARS now (as no doubt your records will show). The road at the entrance to my home is now a significant hazard to life and property. This must be dealt with. I am an emergency volunteer bloodbiker and do regular shifts for the Shropshire, Staffordshire, and Cheshire Blood Bikes. I fear greatly that we will lose precious health resources due to an accident here - the blood supplies, transplant material, neonatal breast milk and emergency equipment we transport. Please give me the information for the council's solicitors - I have damage to both one of our cars and my personal motorcycle incurred already. POSTSCRIPT As I was writing this I was interrupted by the arrival of the works team, who could not believe that (a) this damage has been ignored by the marking up of the road and (b) that more extensive works have not been programmed. I HAVE BEEN REPORTING & RE-REPORTING THIS ISSUE FOR A MULTIPLE OF YEARS NOW!
