On the short dead end of Market Close Reported anonymously at 16:16, Wed 29 March 2023 The traffic lights are constantly being triggered by parked vehicles on Market Close. There a chronic shortage of available parking for the residents of Market Close and Market Street causing many people to park too close to the junction with Badger Avenue and Vernon Way. The induction loops that trigger the lights stretch a long way down Market Close and are always parked over due to the aforementioned lack of parking. This is leading to the light sequence for Market Close being triggered even when there are no cars waiting to exit the street. As you can imagine this is leading to the traffic on the other approaches to that junction backing up more than it should as the lights take longer to cycle round. From my rough estimates there could be as much as 20 second lost on each cycle which certainly adds up as it is a very heavily used junction. Maybe it could be made better with a reduction in the length of the loops in the road coupled with better parking enforcement. There could also be modifications made to the lights and pole-mounted sensors installed to better differentiate parked vehicles from ones using the junction.
