The crossing between Leek Road/Reade's Land and Biddulph Road

Reported anonymously at 11:12, Tue 21 March 2023

I have been walking my 5 year old to Mossley school since September. As advised by the school we park at the All Saints Trinity Church car park (so as to not overcrowd boundary lane) and walk to school, crossing over Biddulph Road and down Roseville Drive to get to the School. At school drop off and pick up times there are a number of children and parents using the same walking route. I am extremely surprised that the traffic lights at the Leek Road/Reade's Lane/Biddulph Road crossroads are not a pelican crossing. Cars drive extremely fast along Biddulph Road and the walkways is very narrow, and it is extremely difficult to cross the road safely, especially with 2 young children holding each hand. I would be grateful if the highways department could look into making the crossroads a pelican crossing so that pedestrians and children walking to school can safely cross at this point. I would expect pedestrian convenience and safety should take priority at a junction so close to a busy primary school, especially when so many parents and children are crossing over these roads on a daily basis. The alternative is parents trying to park closer to school which causes issues to local residents and air pollution issues closer to the school itself.
