Waterloade, Nantwich

Reported by Helen Biddle at 11:59, Saturday 3 September 2022

Hi, the workmen working on the new pavements in Nantwich are going a brilliant job but I think you have made a major mistake. As a mobility scooter user I am very conscious about dropped kerbs. At the moment there is a dropped kerb outside Hope House charity shop with a dropped kerb across the road outside the travel agents. Currently there is a temporary plastic ramp in that position on an ordinary kerbstone. They say there is no plan to have dropped one there when the project is finished. I am really concerned that wheelchair, mobility scooter and pram users will use the dropped kerb outside the charity shop and then finding they can't get off the road at the other side. This is a major crossover point on a very busy corner and it would mean wheelchairs and mobility scooter users would have no choice but to drive on the road in a dangerous situation. There is an option to go down to the traffic lights to cross over but with a dropped kerb on one side of the road there should be another on the opposite side of the road. It isn't possible to go on the other footpath past the pub and other shops as there is no dropped kerb on the small junction outside the pub which stops us going that way. I would really appreciate your comments on this and I would be happy to meet someone from your department to show the difficulties using this pavement.
